Bricks 4 Kidz® classes combine fun with LEGO® learning

Bricks

Kids who take part in Bricks 4 Kidz® classes think they’re just having fun playing with LEGO® blocks. What they may not realize is that they’re learning, too.

In addition to being introduced to science and engineering concepts, Bricks 4 Kidz® students learn skills like patience and teamwork and have a place to engage their creativity.

This unique combination of fun and learning drew Belmont resident Colleen Kirk to open a local Bricks 4 Kidz® franchise last October. Since then, she’s offered a variety of programs in area schools as well as several day camps over the summer. This fall, she’ll be offering an after-school program at five schools, including Gaston Christian.

Bricks 4 Kidz® classes teach kids through play as they assemble one of the company’s proprietary models, which have been designed by engineers and architects. One typical class has kids assemble a windmill, including a quick lesson on what inventions are and the history of windmills. Students are given a box full of LEGO® parts and a set of instructions, then work in pairs to complete their model.
