Policies

Behaviour Policy:

We want to ensure the children are happy and having fun but equally that they are aware of the expectations. At the start of every class we go through these and talk about what they mean in our class environment.

Our Expectations are as follows;

Be Safe – with Lego, not to be put in mouths or thrown or snatched from anyone else. No running in the classroom or rocking on chairs.

Be Respectful – hand up when wanting to talk and good listening and sharing with their partner.

Be Responsible – putting away the pieces calmly and in the correct place at the end of the class.

As an after school club we want to make sure that the children are enjoying what they do and in order to maintain this we need to ensure they work within our structure and that good behaviour is maintained at all times. Our class is structured into 3 parts as below;

We Learn – a brief 5 minute presentation that is fun and interactive and involves discussion on that week’s build. This gives context to what they are building but also provides a new element of learning and key concepts in subjects which they may never have done before. It’s important that the children sit and listen quietly.

We Build – in pairs; they work together with our plans and kits to build the model of the week. It’s important for teamwork and collaboration skills that they take it in turns so each child gets the benefit of building.

We Play – a fun, creative 10 minutes where they are encouraged to build whatever they want from our free play Lego bag.

Working alongside the school, we require both the parent and child attending Bricks 4 Kidz to read through the policy set out above. You need to fully understand what the expectations are and both the parent and the child need to sign up to the behaviour policy in order to attend.

Simple Discipline Procedure

We will work on a 3-strike policy. If we feel that the behaviour is not what’s expected and goes against our policy we will follow the procedure below;

Step 1 – verbal warning will be given to the child and this may involve them sitting in another area of the classroom

Step 2 – written warning in the form of an email will be sent to the parent advising that they are on a final warning.

Step 3 – if it happens a third time, they will be asked to leave the class and a member of school staff will collect them and phone the parent for collection.

If a child has been asked to leave the class due to poor behaviour we require 2 terms of non-attendance before they can re join the class. We reserve the right to refuse attendance to our classes.
